Day 7 | Edinburgh to Strathdon | 180 km

I find it really hard to get moving this morning. It’s just as cold if not worse than yesterday. My bike is covered in ice and I want nothing more than to take a day off.

Unfortunately, that’s not how this works. It’s a set schedule and I need to show up for each ride, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

By the time I reach Perth after 60 km, it’s turning into a decent day. It’s now 10 degrees, my feet are starting to thaw, and there’s no sign of rain.

The next few hours include more farmland with rolling hills and occasional steep hills in the towns along the way.

Later in the afternoon we tackle the biggest climb of the day, Glenshee. The second pit stop is just opposite the chairlift. It’s a very long climb, and it’s great fun to fly down the other side into Aberdeenshire.

Basecamp always seems farther away than I want it to be. I eventually arrive with a great sense of relief at having completed one more day of what I’m finding to be a very challenging event.
