There is frost on the outside of the tent this morning, and the air is cold enough that I can see my breath. The good news is it probably won’t rain, so that’s a big improvement over yesterday.
I bundle up in as many bike layers as I can and hit the road at 7:20. It’s chilly but manageable. Just 29 km later, I cross the border into Scotland!

The road surface is very rough for much of the day, but the landscape is wonderful.

We work our way through the Lowther Hills, which have quite a gentle grade but they take a while to ascend. The view from the top makes each climb worth it.

After descending, we return to farmland and quiet country lanes. They’re just as beautiful as the views from above, and at the end of the ride when I’m longing for basecamp, scenery is a welcome distraction.

Despite the lack of rain, it was another really tiring ride with a strong headwind the whole way. I’m hoping the wind will shift tomorrow.
Tonight our basecamp is down the road from Midhope Castle.

amazing you’ve already reached Scotland! Despite the headwind, I wonder if today might have been an overall highlight day?
