Since it’s a shorter distance today, I get on the road a bit later at 7:20. It’s only 11 degrees right now and it’s looking like we have another headwind. I don’t have much left in my legs at this point, but if I take my time I should be alright.
Monday morning rush hour traffic causes a number of long waits at intersections. Once we get through that, it isn’t long before we cross the bridge into Wales. Our first pit stop of the day is next to Chepstow Castle.

We have fewer hills than yesterday, but the accumulated fatigue of all the mileage we’ve covered thus far is requiring many of us to take it down a notch. When I’m tired I prefer to ride alone because it takes more focus to ride in a group. The chit chat can be a pleasant way to pass the time, but it stops anyway when we hit a substantial hill, which is often.

The scenery is beautiful in this region, and the blue sky continues all afternoon. That last photo is from one of the photographers stationed along the route.
Our second pit stop is just under the 100 km mark. The organisers always try to split the ride into thirds. It’s much less daunting to think of riding 50 km three times as opposed to 150 km.

I’m relieved when we eventually reach Ludlow. It was an enjoyable day on the whole, but my energy is very much lacking at this point.

What an interesting update! What an experience to be stuck in commuter traffic with so many other cyclists. Love the pic taken of you and many congrats for already heading into Wales. Amazing!
You will feel tired. Those last three days are incredibly tough. As long as you are injury free and well, the body has amazing powers of recuperation. Tomorrow is arguably the easiest day, so just spin the legs and take advantage of the relative flat stage. The forecast is dry but windy, but looks like it will be more a cross-wind. Be careful of sideways gusts. Tomorrow evening you’ll experience a race course base camp – so a change of routine. It will be a bit more spread out than before, so be prepared for a bit of walking. Food tends not to be as good. Keep pedalling!
It’s not every day you get stuck in traffic on your way to a Welsh castle! Great photos and action shot. Hope you get some nice downhill riding tomorrow!
Loving all the pictures. Interesting that you had a traffic jam. Great picture of you. Praying you rest well tonight.
Such an Adventure! The scenery looks great. Some sunshine would be nice though. The roads look to be in better condition than here: no potholes!
Congrats on knocking off all those hills, Lynn. They were no match for you and Burpee Ave. Hope you store up some energy while caught in those traffic jams. Keep on keeping on and have fun. Great pictures!
