Day 7 | Mara to Albert Canyon | 126 km

I’m one of the last to leave camp this morning at 4:15 and before I know it the first hour of the ride is done. The temperature is somewhere in the low-20’s which is perfect. Once I get off the 97A I get on the Trans-Canada and stay there.

There’s hardly anywhere to stop on this route. I take my first break on the roadside after 55 km when hunger strikes. It’s also an excuse to get off the saddle for a minute or two. I can’t seem to get comfortable on it today.

I catch up to Matt after 65 km and we end up sticking together for the rest of the ride.

We stop for another food break at 80 km, this time on a guardrail. A few kilometres later there’s a black bear at the edge of the woods.

This section of the Trans-Canada is full of logging trucks, camper vans and rumble strips. Staying well clear of all three can be a challenge. We stop briefly in Revelstoke after 90 km because it’s the only place to get water on this route.

The second half has a lot more hills than the first. We get to camp at 10:15 and Paul arrives around noon. The current temperature is only 33 degrees which thrills me to no end.

Happy Canada Day!

  2. So glad the temperature has dropped to something slightly more reasonable. That sign for Golden and Banff make Alberta seem closer!

  3. Happy Canada Day. Glad for you that the temperature is cooperating. Enjoying the photos. What is your final destination?
I have done numerous legs with TDC ( around Lake Superior) and think it is just a wonderful opportunity
    Best wishes. John

    1. I’m going to finish next week in Drumheller. It would be difficult at this stage to find the time for the whole TDC so it’s great they offer this option.

  4. Glad you’re approaching Alberta and managing to stay hydrated in this heat, Lynn! We are rooting for you!

  5. Awesome photos! Nice to pair up on some of these segments, especially in bear country. Happy Canada Day!
