Prologue

Here I sit, on a flight heading west
as the guy next to me hogs the armrest

I never thought I would travel so soon
I wasn’t expecting a bike tour in June

Nevertheless, I couldn’t say no
When the offer came in, I wanted to go

Through hills and heat and rain no doubt
long days on the bike are what it’s about

Whatever the weather (what if it snows?)
the mountains are calling so we’ll see how it goes

Vancouver to Drumheller is my plan
We can often do more than we think we can

I’ve cycled the Rockies in years gone by
and it’s time I gave it another try

I’ll come back stronger and fitter I’d say
and ready to ride around the UK

That trip may not happen, I don’t know for sure
so I’m seizing this chance to do a bike tour

A much-needed adventure has begun
I look forward to the challenge – this will be fun!
