Day 0 | Orientation Day

An early start out of Saint John gets me to Halifax mid-morning. As Mount St. Vincent University approaches – the gathering place for this year’s Tour Atlantic – flashbacks to the Tour du Canada and Tour Pacific make today seem pleasantly familiar.

The Cycle Canada truck makes it easy to pick out Westwood residence, and it isn’t long before I spot a number of familiar faces from previous tours: Alan, Mike B., Jim, Larry, Mark, Charles, Mike T. (our cook), and of course Bud, the owner of Cycle Canada.

The orientation session starts at 1:00 and gives us all a chance to get to know one another and learn how the tour will play out from day to day. I like that we get to be completely independent, setting our own schedule and our own pace. Meals are served at 7am and 6pm, but other than that it’s fairly unstructured.

There are 21 of us altogether representing six provinces and three states, and one rider, Eriko, joins us all the way from Japan! It’s an older crowd than I expected, but after all the introductions, I can tell this is going to be a fun group.

Big day tomorrow. I think I’ll make it an early night.

  1. Sounds like it will be a great adventure – glad I can do it vicariously! Hope you have a good start and watch out for Mt. North and Smokey Mountain in CB!
